Publisher Description

Tired of word games that fall into the same old patterns? This game won't. Trust us.

Spill a handful of slightly magical coffee beans, and as letters come up, put them in any bean you choose. As you place more letters, you create words in every direction, including a lot you weren't even looking for. We keep track of your words and score so you can focus on where you put the letters.

Besides beans, you can drop letters into bubbles of spilled hot coffee if even more jam-packed jumbled fun is your cup of tea. Or slow the pace with colored candy hearts, where shorter words carry more weight. Our fourth variation, 8-Spot, forces you to adapt by "spotting" randomly pre-placed letters in fixed locations, taking you slightly out of your comfort zone. The latest mode, Cyrano, chooses three special random letters that boost the score of any word you put them in.

What's outside the box about Spell the Beans? For one thing, you're building words, not simply finding them. You place letters as they come up one at a time, anticipating what might come, in a randomly spilled pattern that's different every time, as opposed to facing a fixed grid pre-filled with letters from the start. This game is anything but repetitive.

The letters, hearts, bubbles and beans spill deliciously differently every time, making each game a fresh challenge. Or a sandbox of see-what-happens finger-fidgeting, if it's been that kind of day. You can play the no-look challenge and you'll be hard-pressed not to score. Or use your wits to create a web frankly teeming with words. Think as much or as little as you want. Pour spelling either way.

Spell the Beans. Come for the coffee. Stay for the play.
Features:

. Carefully roasted blend of letters - This is not your grandparents' RSTLNE. We're confident no one has quite this fine-tuned mix. You’ll love the difference.

. Endless variation in random bean, bubble and heart patterns - Never face the same setup twice. Get your cognitive shuffle here. And just leave the spilling and cleanup to us. The leading soft, absorbent paper towel not required.

. Scoring in any direction - any connected beans, bubbles or hearts can make a word. Literally lateral thinking. People love getting words they didn't even see coming. Great spelling is optional.

. Play alone or against Blu Yonder, an opponent who’ll always keep you on your toes. Sometimes beatable, often unbelievable. Always Blu.

. Fifty color schemes to choose from. Intuitive interface lets you drag anywhere to highlight word locations easily.

Version History Edited the wordlist. Welcome to, among others, scalaron, gyrotron, jouska, barndominium and ignorosphere. 1.7.5 05/01/2025 Addressed compliance with Apple changes. Please note the app no longer supports iOS 11. We also added more new words to the word list. Among others, now allowed for your scoring pleasure are wingsuiting, agrivoltaics, bargoer, churnalism, grolar, pizzly, zatrikion, hyperforeignism, kyawthuite, typosquatting, petrostate and sonoluminescence. And a pizzly in a pear tree. 1.7.4 01/05/2025 More additions to the acceptable wordlist. Recent edits added scorigami, spaving, nanodisc, kettlebell, semiquincentennial, jaffle, mukbang, glaciologist, and skyquake. Note: Version 1.7.2 may have been uploaded in a state that wouldn't open properly. Version 1.7.3 is in the proper state. 1.7.3 10/22/2024 Added new words to the acceptable wordlist, including scorigami, spaving, nanodisc, kettlebell, semiquincentennial, jaffle, mukbang, glaciologist, and skyquake. 1.7.2 10/16/2024 Besides making additions to the wordlist, we found an issue that only seemed to come up in Apple's iOS simulator, not on actual devices, but just in case, we're including a fix. It had to do with reopening the app if it left the background after a completed game. It all came down to the little asterisk you see after placing the last letter. 1.7.1 09/24/2024 This update includes new additions to the acceptable wordlist. Welcome bioinformatician, misokinesia and roughshark, among others. 1.7.0 09/17/2024 Under the hood: Corrected a syntactical omission we found related to scrolling the list of formed words on the left.

Further edited the acceptable wordlist. Joining recent additions kitefoiling, quackgrass, microgeneration (e.g., Gen Jones), and humblebrag, welcome anthrozoology and bioacoustician, as well as plurals oystercatchers and piratesses. 1.6.9 08/26/2024 Made pattern formation in 8-Spot and Cyrano more efficient.

If you're using the search box area to see if something is an acceptable word, and happen to tap outside the search box before you've finished typing, resuming typing is now seamless.

Brightened game manager color scheme.

Edited the acceptable wordlist. Welcome newcomers kitefoiling, quackgrass, microgeneration (e.g., Gen Jones), and humblebrag, among others. 1.6.8 08/07/2024 Edited the wordlist, restored standard display for older iPads, further allowed for dismissing a wordlist search before tapping the return key. 1.6.7 06/10/2024 Support for the latest iPads. For consistency, we've also opted to show the status bar on all home buttonless iPads. 1.6.6 05/29/2024 Version 1.6.4 inadvertently incorporated a generic, default set of iOS specifications, which, among other things, meant the new typeface for Cyrano didn't appear. We're back to our specific set with this release. We also dealt with an issue where, when searching if a word is in the acceptable wordlist, tapping outside the search box before hitting the return key left the partially typed word in the search area. Now tapping outside the search area clears any unexecuted searches and dismisses the keyboard. 1.6.5 05/01/2024 Made display tweaks for iPhone 14 & 15, edited wordlist. 1.6.4 04/17/2024 Edited wordlist; Replaced typeface in Cyrano. 1.6.3 03/22/2024 Improved touch sensitivity when placing letters in Love Letters, 8-Spot and Cyrano. Resolved remaining cases in those three modes where Blu Yonder's longest word(s) list was formed but didn't appear. Edited word list. 1.6.2 10/02/2023 Resolved three issues:

In Cyrano, "longest word(s)" weren't being tabulated properly. Now they are.

In 8-Spot and Cyrano, when allowing profanity to be scored (the default is not allowing profanity), Blu Yonder's score should have been calculated according to each mode's scoring system. Now it is.

When viewing stats in 8-Spot and Cyrano, the "longest word(s)" list didn't display even though the word(s) showed when toggling the green upper right score ellipse. Now the list also shows. 1.6.1 08/05/2023 Speed improvements in 8-Spot and Cyrano, expanded wordlist, and a small graphics change. 1.6.0 08/02/2023 This addresses an issue with version 1.5.8 in which 8-Spot games wouldn't reopen if the app went out of the (App Switcher) background. These reopen now as before. We've seen one case where such a resumed game didn't count all the subsequently formed words and Blu Yonder needed a double switching of the switch icon, and are working on resolving this case.

(From version 1.5.8) Introducing our fifth game mode, Cyrano. Three random special letters make any word they appear in worth that much more! As always, access game modes by long-pressing New Game.

And our expansion of the acceptable wordlist continues - Welcome resomation, skiplag and more... 1.5.9 07/16/2023 Introducing our fifth game mode, Cyrano. Three random special letters make any word they appear in worth that much more! As always, access game modes by long-pressing New Game.

We also addressed an in issue in rare cases when, after placing a limited number of letters in Spell the Coffee and then switching to another mode, puzzles would sometimes not form.

And our expansion of the acceptable wordlist continues - Welcome resomation, skiplag and more... 1.5.8 07/14/2023 Edited the wordlist. 1.5.7 04/19/2023 Optimized for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. 1.5.6 04/03/2023 Introducing 8-Spot, our latest variation: "Spot" letter placements by starting the game with the first several letters already randomly placed. Taking you just enough out of your comfort zone to keep things unpredictable and make words you wouldn't have considered. With bonus points for pre-placed letters. As always, long-press New Game to bring up the variations, swiping a game name and tapping the checkmark and "Done." 1.5.5 03/29/2023 Added more words to what's acceptable. Dictionaries keep growing and so do we. 1.5.4 02/06/2023 Added more words to the acceptable list. 1.5.3 01/23/2023 Mainly updated the acceptable wordlist with new entries like embiggen, spork and zonkey. Also, although we've expanded the wordlist before, newly added words would be scored if you made them, though they wouldn't be listed as "Ok" when searching with the search box. Now besides scoring, they'll be shown as "Ok" when searching. 1.5.2 12/20/2022 For existing users who've had the app since version 1.4.8 or earlier, our latest game mode, Love Letters, now appears properly in the game manager. As always, to access the game manager, long-press New Game. Swipe right on a game name for info, and swipe left to reveal a check mark. Tap the check mark to select the game, and then tap Done. In Love Letters, you fill candy hearts with letters, letting multicolored short words shine for more points. 1.5.1 09/23/2022
